چکیده

Suppose that the Ž nite population consists of N identiŽ able units. Associated with the ith unit are the study variable, yi , and a vector of auxiliary variables, xi . The values x11 x21 : : : 1xN are known for the entire population (i.e., complete) but yi is known only if the ith unit is selected in the sample. One of the fundamental questions is how to effectively use the complete auxiliary information at the estimation stage. In this article, a uniŽ ed model-assisted framework has been attempted using a proposed model-calibration technique. The proposed model-calibration estimators can handle any linear or nonlinear working models and reduce to the conventional calibration estimators of Deville and Särndal and/or the generalized regression estimators in the linear model case. The pseudoempirical maximum likelihood estimator of Chen and Sitter, when used in this setting, gives an estimator that is asymptotically equivalent to the model-calibration estimator but with positive weights. Some existing estimators using auxiliary information are reexamined under this framework. The estimation of the Ž nite population distribution function, using complete auxiliary information, is also considered, and estimators based on a general model are presented. Results of a limited simulation study on the performance of the proposed estimators are reported.

The Effective Use of Complete Auxiliary Information From Survey Data

A unified framework to deal with the effective use of complete auxiliary information from survey data at the estimation stage has been attempted. The proposed method involves modeling the relationship between the variable of interest and the auxiliary variables, and then incorporating the auxiliary information into design-consistent estimators of finite population means, totals, distribution fu...

Spatial prediction of soil electrical conductivity using soil axillary data, soft data derived from general linear model and error measurement

Indirect measurement of soil electrical conductivity (EC) has become a major data source in spatial/temporal monitoring of soil salinity. However, in many cases, the weak correlation between direct and indirect measurement of EC has reduced the accuracy and performance of the predicted maps. The objective of this research was to estimate soil EC based on a general linear model via using se...

Optimal calibration estimators in survey sampling

We show that the model-calibration estimator for the finite population mean, which was proposed by Wu & Sitter (2001) through an intuitive argument, is optimal among a class of calibration estimators. We also present optimal calibration estimators for the finite population distribution function, the population variance, the variance of a linear estimator and other quadratic finite population fu...

Connections between survey calibration estimators and semiparametric models for incomplete data.

Survey calibration (or generalized raking) estimators are a standard approach to the use of auxiliary information in survey sampling, improving on the simple Horvitz-Thompson estimator. In this paper we relate the survey calibration estimators to the semiparametric incomplete-data estimators of Robins and coworkers, and to adjustment for baseline variables in a randomized trial. The development...

Efficient Estimation of Quadratic Finite Population Functions in the Presence of Auxiliary Information

By viewing quadratic and other second-order finite population functions as totals or means over a derived synthetic finite population, we show that the recently proposed model calibration and pseudoempirical likelihood methods for effective use of auxiliary information from survey data can be readily extended to obtain efficient estimators of quadratic and other second-order finite population f...
